We are now the National Laboratory of the Rockies. Please update your bookmarks to www.nlr.gov by May 29, 2026.

Logo

The NLR logo is the lab's primary visual identifier, signifying ownership and authorship while serving as one of the most important touchpoints of the brand.

Logo Components

The logo includes two components:

  • Symbol: Mountain, mesa, sun
  • Text: National Laboratory of the Rockies (full name).

Our logo showcases the lab's unique geographic location, combining the Rocky Mountains with the mesa that is unique to the South Table Mountain campus. The golden circle is also a nod to our location in Golden, Colorado. In addition, it represents the sun, a symbol that our research is continually rising toward new horizons, pushing past accepted limits.

Logo Lockup

The logo components are locked into relative and cohesive positions. This configuration, also known as a logo lockup, should never be altered.

Use of the NLR Logo

Use the NLR logo in accordance with the following guidance.

Third-Party Use of the Logo

The NLR logo may not be used as an endorsement, or implied endorsement, of any product, service, or enterprise. See below for uses that are approved, not allowed, and that require branding team review and U.S. Department of Energy approval.

Authorized Use of the NLR Logo

The NLR logo may be used on:

  • Printed or digital materials for NLR-hosted events
  • Printed or digital materials describing an event or program for which NLR is a financial or in-kind sponsor
  • Printed or digital materials describing an ongoing partnership with NLR where NLR provides financial or in-kind support (e.g., a cooperative research and development agreement, a work for others agreement).

If your requested use falls outside these categories, or if you have questions about logo use, contact Stacy Buchanan.

Unauthorized Use of the NLR Logo

You may not:

  • Use the NLR name or logo to imply endorsement of a company, product, or service
  • Use the NLR name or logo in association with an entity with whom the Alliance for Energy Innovation or the Department of Energy do not have a formal partnership agreement or a sponsorship agreement
  • Use the NLR name or logo for any use not outlined in "Authorized Use of the NLR Logo."

The logo components are locked together proportionally and should never be used separately, rearranged, condensed, or altered in any way. The NLR logo should not be modified or appropriated to fit into spaces or formats. Do not reconstruct the logo; only use the approved NLR logo.

Logo Clear Space

When using the logo, always leave clear space around it, free of text, rules, and page edges. The minimum clear space is proportional, relative to the size of the logo used, measured equally on all sides by the height of the first mountain in the symbol.
